One curriculum. One connected learning experience.
A complete academic program, built for your reality.
MicroCore is a complete Grades 3 to 5 curriculum built specifically for multi-age classrooms. Reading, writing, social studies, science, projects, and social-emotional learning work together as one connected core, while math follows its own rigorous progression. Every lesson is planned, connected, and ready to teach.
How the year is structured
A MicroCore year is organized into four domains. Each domain is built around one compelling driving question that students investigate over seven weeks, culminating in an authentic exhibition where they share and defend their learning. Built-in flexible weeks give you room for field trips, celebrations, reteaching, and the natural rhythm of a real school year.
The structure stays consistent from one domain to the next, so students and teachers learn the routines once and build confidence throughout the year. What changes is the question, the content, and the investigation. What stays the same is the connected learning experience.
Communities and Culture:
Why do some communities stay strong while others
fall apart?
Students investigate how communities grow, change, and endure as they create an informational and
explanatory exhibition.
Inventions & Design
How does one idea change everything?
Students examine innovations that transformed the world as they craft a narrative exhibition.
Ecosystems:
How do living things shape the places they
call home?
Students explore the relationships between living things and their environments as they develop an opinion and argument exhibition.
The Power of Stories
How do the stories we tell shape who we are?
Students synthesize learning from across the year through research, reflection, and a capstone exhibition.
A rhythm your students learn once and run all year.
Every teaching day follows the same six-block rhythm, so students know what to expect, routines become second nature, and you spend less time managing transitions and more time teaching.
We Gather
Build community and prepare students for meaningful learning.
Students connect, settle into the day, and activate prior learning before the day's academic work begins.
We Read, Write, Share
Strengthen literacy while you teach responsively.
Students engage in reading, writing, fluency, and word study while you confer with individuals and lead targeted small groups.
We Build Knowledge
Develop shared understanding through rich texts and discussion.
The class reads and discusses the same meaningful text, building the knowledge everyone needs for the week's big ideas.
We Reason and Explore
Build mathematical understanding together.
Students begin with one shared mathematical idea before moving into practice designed for their readiness.
We Investigate
Turn learning into meaningful work.
Students explore questions, analyze evidence, collaborate, and create as they build toward the domain exhibition.
We Close
Reflect, connect, and prepare for tomorrow.
Students make sense of the day's learning, connect it back to the driving question, and look ahead to what's next.
One integrated core, with math on its own track
Most programs hand you separate subjects to stitch together. MicroCore is built the other way around.
Reading, writing, social studies, science, projects, and social-emotional learning are woven into one connected core. Every text, discussion, investigation, and writing task deepens the same driving question, so learning feels purposeful instead of fragmented.
Math follows its own carefully sequenced progression, giving students the dedicated time they need to build deep conceptual understanding and lasting mathematical reasoning.
Math That Builds Thinkers.
Mathematics deserves its own dedicated path. While the rest of the curriculum is integrated around shared questions, MicroCore Math follows a carefully sequenced progression that develops deep understanding, confident problem solvers, and mathematical reasoning across Grades 3–5.
Built for Understanding
Students move from hands-on models to visual representations to abstract reasoning, building lasting understanding instead of relying on shortcuts.
Concepts Before Procedures
Students discover why mathematics works before practicing efficient strategies and algorithms, creating knowledge that sticks.
Responsive Small-Group Teaching
Independent practice creates space for targeted instruction, allowing teachers to meet students exactly where they are.
Designed for Multi-Age Classrooms
Students work at the level they are ready for while learning alongside peers in one shared classroom community.
Reasoning and Mathematical Discourse
Students explain their thinking, justify their strategies, and learn from one another through purposeful math conversations.
Independent Learning by Design
Clear routines and thoughtfully designed materials help students work independently, giving teachers the freedom to teach where support is needed most.
The literacy system
Literacy is intentionally divided into two complementary blocks. One builds knowledge together. The other builds independent readers and writers while making differentiated instruction possible.
We Build Knowledge
Students read rich texts, engage in meaningful discussions, and write about shared questions that connect across the curriculum. Every learner explores the same big ideas together.
We Read, Write, Share
Students practice foundational reading skills and complete meaningful literacy tasks independently while the teacher meets with small groups for responsive instruction and personalized instruction tailored to student needs.
Differentiation isn't an add-on. It's how MicroCore is built.
MicroCore is designed so students can learn together without doing the exact same work. Every learner explores the same big ideas while receiving instruction and assignments at the level they are ready for. Differentiation isn't something teachers add. It's built into the curriculum from the start.
Every lesson includes the guidance, materials, and instructional support needed for each supporting all learners, so teachers spend less time planning differentiation and more time teaching.
